Job Title:  Domestic Violence Advocate

The Domestic Violence Advocate will perform intermediate skilled human support work providing direct and indirect services to primarily adult survivors of domestic violence. The Advocate will facilitate individual and group counseling; provide advocacy on behalf of clients with various agencies to include the legal system. Additionally, the Advocate will provide public outreach and education to law enforcement and other community-based organizations; maintain files and records; prepare reports; and other related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Project Hope Program Manager.

Job Title: Virginia Community Action Agency VISTA Project
Quin Rivers – Resource Development Coordinator

Organizational Information:

Quin Rivers, Inc. is a Virginia-based, non-profit, community action agency that was established in 1970 as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.  For the last forty-seven years, the agency has delivered high-quality and effective programming to address the needs of the low-income populations residing in the agency’s vast service area.  Currently, the organization operates the following six programs designed to address the critical needs facing its constituents:  Healthy Families; Housing/Financial Counseling; Homeless Prevention; Micro-Loans; Project Discovery; and Project Hope.  The agency’s VISTA program seeks to improve low-income residents’ access to existing programs and/or access to newly developed programs; improvement of data systems that will assist in the development of funding diversification strategies; development of high-quality internal systems that will increase the agency’s sustainability and employee retention.

Member Duties:

The VISTA will recruit and manage volunteers to assist with bi-weekly food packaging. Create detailed reports using existing data for justification for food insecurity initiatives. Assist in development of permanent food programs. Expand communications through various media channels. The VISTA will also research and write grants.

 For this one-year, full-time AmeriCorps position benefits include a living allowance of approximately $946 per month before taxes and the option of an End of Service Benefit of $5,815 Segal Education Award or $1,500 cash stipend only awarded upon successful completion of service.
